Mediterranean Diet

At Zoobibi, we take inspiration from the Mediterranean style diet, which is a way of eating that emphasizes vegetables, fruits, whole grains, legumes, nuts, seeds, olive oil, and fish. It is based on the traditional eating patterns of people who live in the Mediterranean region. This is a diverse region that spans North Africa (Morocco) to Europe (Spain, Italy, Greece) to the Middle East (Lebanon, Turkey).

This diet is associated with a reduced risk of chronic diseases, such as heart disease, diabetes, and some types of cancer. It is also linked to improved cognitive function and longevity.

The typical foods that are included in a Mediterranean diet include:

- Vegetables and fruits: tomatoes, cucumbers, eggplants, peppers, onions, garlic, lemons, oranges, figs, grapes, pomegranates, and more.
- Whole grains: bread, pasta, couscous, bulgur wheat, and quinoa.
- Legumes: beans, lentils, chickpeas, and peas.
- Nuts and seeds: almonds, walnuts, pistachios, and sesame seeds.
- Fish and seafood: sardines, tuna, salmon, and shrimp, often grilled or baked.
- Olive oil: used for cooking, salad dressings, and as a condiment.

Red meat and processed foods are limited, and dairy products are consumed in moderation. Herbs and spices are used to flavor food instead of salt.

Overall, a Mediterranean style diet is a balanced and healthy way of eating that focuses on nutrient-dense whole foods.
